Early Years
Castilion Primary School’s Early Years Foundation (EYFS) Curriculum is created through the use of the DfE’s Development Matters early years curriculum document.
The Development Matters document breaks down the EYFS Areas of Learning and Development into various age ranges, suggests what children might be learning to do within each age band and provides practical examples of the ways in which educators can support this using suitable, age-appropriate methods. Through the use of this planning tool, and a combination of quality teaching and learning schemes used across the whole school, our EYFS Leader aims to:
- meet the goals and intentions of the EYFS curriculum and ensure that all planning is appropriately ambitious and is successfully adapted to meet the needs of all pupils including those with SEND
- use the schools I do, We do, You do teaching strategy, to model new procedures and use resources and approaches that enable pupils to understand all areas of learning
- ensure that the content, sequencing and progression in the 7 areas of learning are secured and the content of the EYFS curriculum is taught in a logical progression, systematically and in a way that is explained effectively, so that it gives pupils the necessary foundations for the rest of their schooling
- enable pupils t develop, consolidate and deepen their knowledge, understanding and skills across all the areas of learning in the EYFS
- enable the development of pupil’s communication and language through singing songs, nursery rhymes and playing games
- enable the development of pupil’s love of reading through reading aloud and telling stories and rhymes
- supporting pupils to demonstrate their attitudes and behaviours through the key characteristics of effective learning:
- playing and exploring
- active learning
- creative thinking and thinking critically
