Being part of Britain/Democracy/Rules and Law/Individual Liberty/Mutual Respect and Tolerance

Castilion Primary School promotes British Values by focusing on its core values which are derived from the Rights Respecting Schools articles.

At Castilion Primary School our values are fundamental expressions of what we think and believe.

  • Equality - ensuring that every individual child has an equal opportunity to make the most of their lives and talents.
  • Dignity - being respected for the children that they are and what they believe in.
  • Respect - treating other children the way they would like to be treated, and acknowledging the thoughts and opinions of other children.

The school's Rights Respecting Behaviour Policy is rooted in developing children to be active and effective future citizens by making them aware of their rights and responsibilities, promoting an inclusive community, and celebrating diversity.

How Castilion Primary School promotes British Values:

  • Democracy: The school fosters democracy through student participation in leadership roles, such as Rights Respecting Champions and Sports Leaders.
  • The Rule of Law: Students are taught to understand and respect rules through assemblies, discussions, and the school's Rights Respecting Behaviour Policy and the school’s Anti-bullying Policy.
  • Individual Liberty: Children are encouraged to understand and exercise their rights and freedoms safely, such as through choices in their learning and participation in extracurricular activities.
  • Mutual Respect: This is a core value emphasized throughout the school's ethos and Rights Respecting Behaviour Policy and the school’s Anti-bullying Policy.
  • Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs: The school promotes tolerance by enhancing understanding of a culturally diverse society and providing opportunities to learn about different faiths through assemblies, discussions, and RE and PSHE/RHE lessons.

School's overarching ethos:

  • Rights Respecting: The school is a Gold Rights Respecting School, which means it actively puts the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the centre of its ethos, planning, and policies.
  • Inclusive Community: The school strives to be inclusive and values the diversity of individuals' circumstances and backgrounds, ensuring everyone feels valued and has a sense of belonging.
  • Core Values: The school's core values: equality, dignity and respect and its mission to supports well-being, participation and relationships and self-esteem, are fundamental to its ethos and are promoted to develop responsible future citizens.
